Being broke is a great incentive to be "cheap", or as my dear Grandmother used to say, Thrifty! I don't have much budget but I can't stand plastic shoes or boots, or low quality in anything. My solution has been to buy Dr. Martens used on eBay, and I've had pretty good results most of the time.
- As for hose, I prefer socks up, but in warmer seasons (i.e. 10 months a year here) my wife prevails on me to wear the socks scrunched down.
