My general reaction to this sort of thing is to ignore it and wear the kilt anyway.

Hmm, perhaps you missed this thread from Yorkshire, and these comments from Wales? Idiots are surely the one thing all nations share.

    Best regards,

    'Tis a manly garb!

Education will prevail in situations like these. A powerpoint presentation is not necessary, but one thing seems a wee strange to me:

Why was the fact that you wear kilts New to her? You've been friends with her for half of your life, yeah? How did she turn 30 and not know that you are Scottish, and that we are brothers in the fight against the tyranny of pants!

Ok, that was a bit dramatic, but I think that my main point is valid, didn't she already know what a kilt was? And hey, what an awesome opportunity to take her to some highland games!

WHOAH, WHOAH! Read the rest of the thread! Dire Straits Fan has said that his friend Sonya has expressed that she's looking forward to seeing him in his kilt at the wedding. The issue is resolved.

maybe instead of yelling at each other, we can congratulate Dire Straits Fan for the resolution of the issue, and hope that he has a great day at the wedding, kilted to the nines.

Congratulations on reaching a happy resolution to your predicament with a good friend. It is most probably that she has some unresolved feelings for you (based on what you said about her), and it can be difficult for adults of opposite sexes to deal with that sort of thing when it's been going on for 15 years.

Just be glad it's "fixed" and go looking like a million bucks. She'll like boith your looks.

I'm sorry if I offended you, this was not my intention.
It was a question rather than a blanket statement.
To expand on my point, I've travelled all over the world wearing my kilt (26 countries now and counting) and I've never had a bad reaction to it.
Almost all of the negative reactions I've seen posted about the kilt by other members, (including a few websites) seem to be from Americans. This may just be because the majority of posters are from there, thus skewing the demographic.

Well, Graham, it's good to know that one can travel so widely kilted without a negative response.

I was recently in Latin America with a friend, both of us wearing kilts, and the snickering was audible as soon as we boarded a bus. On the other hand, several people went out of their way to ask if we were English or Scottish. I even got asked "The Question."

First, I;m really glad you finally got this all sorted out. It is wonderful news and great to hear that your good friend has accepted this part of you. She's obviously a good person and deserved the persereverence you put it.

Unfortunately I've faced a good bit of that in Scotland.
Most people here are fine with it. Especially if it's a special event.
The only time I don't wear my kilt is at work.
I have, however, had a lot of negative comments and reactions.
    Even some from family members.

I think a lot of it depends on the situation.
