I have attended a Church Of England Church , for a Seder Meal ,and I identify with a Druid Structure, and we all enjoyed each other's company and discussion and we had no issues at all, and I was kilted!. This was in my local C of E Church, but it's not unusual for some Churches to invite others for special days or events

From the Forum Moderators
This thread is starting to go off course and dangerously close to an infraction of Rule #5
- Discussions espousing one particular religious belief or political system over another or comparison of one belief or system to another will not be allowed.
It has been an interesting and generally useful thread to now, with the exception of one post that we took off.
Please keep to the original topic so that we do not have to shut this thread down.

Again thanks for almost all of the responces. To those curious I haven't seen the bishop yet because he was on vacation and then I visited my daughter and went to church with her and this week. This week I am in Idaho for the funeral of my brother.
I haven't decided whether or not discuss the kilt with the bishop. I am going to talk to him about the blessing but from other issues I don't think it will do any good. He will take it as an affront to his authority.
I did decide to see how another ward (mormon congregation) would view the kilt so last week all three hansen men wore their kilts (go mckenzie). Granted we were visitors so the bishop would have no reason to "talk" to us but the only responces we got were positive, most very positive. I guess it would have been interesting to have seen if the bishop there would have disapproved.
Just a note. The post about the garments was over the line because many churchs and groups use those terms to insult and belittle members. However I have found that many people who refer to them as secret, magic, undies, underwear, ect don't understand that others have used those terms to be offensive and assume he meant it as a friendly jest so I accept it that way. I hope he understands that because of how others use it members won't find it funny.

It's ok, I opened a window . By the by, you've been misjudged...perhaps I may remark to cajunscot that you're not that kind of guy ...?
Too bad we don't have a private, "anything goes" section. I tip sacred cows like Lightning McQueen in a field full of tractors ...I wonder if the overall experience would be cathartic or chaotic, and for whom .
Grizz, I'm glad to see your sense of humor is intact , and that you guys were well-received at the ward you visited!
G...I'll respectfully keep your caution in mind, and I'm glad you interpreted the joking as nothing more than joking...at least, for my part it was joking. I cannot speak for others. To those compelled to take grievous offense when someone tips one of your sacred cows, remember humor is a powerful force, whether congenial or satirical. Our ability to give and receive both types, as well as to separate jest from intentional insult, is a major part of what sets our culture of liberty and tolerance apart from those of fear and oppression. Doubt me? Not only is humanity's love for civil mockery embraced far and wide, it is enshrined firmly in the law of our land, and has its place in documented and respectable history. Intentionally or accidentally removing your own or others' ability to make the distinction between jest and cruelty is a near-guarantee that you'll end up with a stampede...and nobody wants to see a herd of sacred cows running amok. Personally, I maintain a fairly small herd, so it's a rare occasion when one of them is tipped, but every time, it's critical to understand...was it insult, or simply jest? Think I'm trying to be covertly insulting? Not at all. I'm being serious...if jestingly satirical. Hopefully the community has enough of a working measure of my temperament to realize that if I felt the need to insult someone, I'd just come right out and do it. Think this is all spurious? Some diaphanous spandrel of bloviation atop the arch of religious controversy? Ok...you can keep on thinking that...but you may change your mind, the next time someone tells you "nice skirt!"
Sincerely and with a great many winks ,
Sean Seriously

Well, after having had a brief conversation with him via PM's, I chose to make my post VERY clear with an edit. I didn't see how my own personal experience cold be seen as generalizing an entire worldwide group, but oh well.

I've been practicing witchcraft for 20 years. If you come to my house and park in my spot, I'll have you toad! (As in, turn you into one!)

Thank you for the clarification. Apologies for being prickly, but when I read your post, I really didn't get it that you were referring specifically to your experiences or where you live. I zeroed in on the word "any" and took it to mean the largest definition possible. If I was mistaken, then my sincere apologies. Instead of re-reading the post, I "shotgunned" my reply and now am eating "crow". ![Doh](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/doh.gif)

No problem. I never, ever generalize groups based on my own experiences with individuals. That's for small minds- people who don't know any better.

You need a sign for that.
"Drivers parked illegally will be toad."
Somehow reminded me of "She turned me in to a newt! ............I got better......." ![Laughing](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

That seems to be one of the hardest habits to break, one of the most difficult things to see in oneself, and one of the most disappointing when it's found. I try to keep a rather large store of pickled crows on hand, for my own culinary needs.

Wearing the Kilt
A local Scottish pastor encourages people to wear kilts to church. I wear my kilt at formal settings (chaperone school dances, John Muir's birthday - 21 April, company celebrations (New Year's, Christmas, etc.). Someone is very insecure and very provincial.
Take them to some nearby Scottish games - working dogs, athletic competition, marching and all kinds of people in kilts!
