Fedora with the kilt?

We will be goin away with our touring caravan soon and I will just substitute kilt+black leather day sporran instead of shorts. No one cares what you wear on a camp site. So that will be baseball cap, polo shirt and trainers or boots during the day. If we go out for dinner then it will be more formal. Kilt+semi-dress sporran, Black brogues (not gillie, hate them), full hose+flashes and my lovat blue tweed kilt jacket with tie and If I had a fedora I would wear it if that was my style.

Time and place is important as well as your personal style. We don't all want to look like the model style put out by the retailers.

Hi Graham! The fedora, as we Yanks call them, were most popular back in the 40's, but have made a comeback redesigned with a much smaller crown (top) and brim. The Indiana Jones movies brought them back to life, but the interesting thing is, his hat was Australian! I myself, prefer the wider brim hat for hiking/camping and you may view me wearing one of them in my gallery.

I have to agree my avatar is me wearing an aussie hat. I also have an older style fedora with a wide brim. I've worn the aussie hat with my utilikilt and got complements on the look.

FWIW: I wore a fedora with my (new to me) SWK Leatherneck Kilt and the only comments I received were of the "Smart looking outfit!" variety

I think you'll find that the hat with a similar shape but smaller brim is actually called a Trilby. A fine point, to be sure, but it is a separate variety of hat from the fedora.
