Re: Anyone's spouse/significant other vehemently opposed to you kilting?
I must be very lucky I have worn the kilt most of my life because I like the comfort wear it everyday in all situations except when working so my wife knew what she was getting into she will not go out with me if I am not wearing a kilt:

Im sure wardrobe is not the only way these spouses show their "ownership" attitude.

I too am one of those poor saps whose wife objects. She has heard all the arguments but stands by her opinion, even acknowledging that it is illogical. This will be a long battle for me.

Yeah, we have a good one! She's a keeper- as are my kids. But with them I have no say in the matter...

I hate that attitude. And so many kilt wearers have it, too. It's like "OK, I'll wear it to the wedding, and then run home and immediately shove it back into the closet. That way, no one sees me in it." As if it's a thing to do only when you have no other choice, and then hide shamefacedly as soon as humanly possible. I guess I don't understand why people are so ashamed of it.

Have you tried the "I respect you enough not to tell you how to dress. Please afford me the same courtesy" argument? That worked for a friend of mine.

My wife is fairly indifferent. She does however really like my Scotland the Brave Kilt as it has a bold purple in it and she loves purple.

Isn't the internet cool? You can bust into a thread and insult everyone's wives, and they can't do anuthing about it!!!
It's not about "ownership". It's about caring enough about another person to have an opinion about what they're wearing. I don't remember anyone saying that they weren't "allowed" to wear one. Some of us have wives that don't like us wearing kilts. We're just in here talking amongst ourselves about that. We can appreciate that you're too cool to care what women think. The rest of us will just carry on with our little thread.

Re: Anyone's spouse/significant other vehemently opposed to you kilting?
It's not my wife, but my sister-in-law that won't be seen in public with my kilt. My wife and I went to their house for a weekend visit. that evening, we decided to go to a local Irish bar for dinner. I put my kilt on, and my wife says that K###n won't go unless you take off the kilt. Well, I did and went out anyway. I was livid!!!!. Months later, my wife and I went to the same town and stayed in a motel. I wore the kilt to the very same pub. Upon our arrival, we found that the bar was closed for a private function. The manager came out to tell me, but said that I had come all this way a nd was kilted, he let us in and bought my wife and I both a drink. A lot of the people from the party came over to comment on the kilt. Lots of drinks were purchased and we left very happy.
The power of the kilt.

Well, when they turn eighteen, you can shove them out of the nest.

Ya, the closet isn't much fun.

Re: Anyone's spouse/significant other vehemently opposed to you kilting?
Ill have to admit Im one of the fortunate ones who has a girlfriend that enjoys me in a kilt. When we were in Scotland this past June, a self guided bike tour of the Highlands, she told me to "Go for the skirt" when i picked one up at a small town shop. She has enjoyed me wearing all of my kilts, 2 Elkommando, 1 Stillwater kilt, 1 Hector Russell, and my hand sewn kilt from Bonnie Greene. Since about mid July I wear jeans maybe once a week, otherwise it is kilts. She always tells here school teacher friends ill show up to happy hours in a kilt and then pimps them to ask the "question". She even said I better be in my Bonnie Greene kilt when we attended her friends wedding. Even the bride was glad I wore it. So I count myself fortunate to have her in my life and also accepting of my always wearing a kilt of some sort. I just have to keep her hands from under my apron when we are at the movies. ;)
