Hi, sorry, no pix, but it is Friday and I was out cross country skiing in my Ireland's National tartan basic kilt from USA kilts. I wore the same one later to mindfulness meditation group. With green hose and blue flashes. Wearing it skiing was a celebration of the end of another great ski season. To see what the skiing is like here, check out this promo video - all three folks in it are friends https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HdIWRMjFLk

This kilt is acrylic, I have another in wool. Wool skis much better because it hangs better, doesn't stick to itself. Now there's a bit of knowledge nobody needs but me and one other guy in my locale - we will ski in a kilt on Robbie Burns Day.

Where I live there are lots of retirees like myself, and I get a lot of approval, only occasionally 'the question'. I did meet some new people, but they had started drinking before 3PM and I don't think they even noticed I was kilted. Jeesh. Mind you that was before I went to meditation, when I went out for a late lunch, still being hungry from the ski.

    Friday kilted at work

Friday found me in my somewhat new 21st Century Kilts black denim kilt. A total of five pockets! The big two in front with a hidden one in-between the aprons. Two in back but I have them flipped inside so you can't see them.

JTHK, That is a really great look. The whole lot; boots, scarf, vest, kilt, socks. Very cool... given me a idea or two!

    My First Kilted Friday

This pic is from 2014, my first time out in a kilt, a Friday in December.... house a bit high, kilt a bit low and before I got a brown sporran.

Your shoes seem to have some nice tread to them. Like the jacket and esp. the vest. I have the same black sporran.

Thanks! The shoes are about 30 years old now and still have great tread, vibram sole. The jacket is a old Backhouse waxed cotton coat, still waterproof (better than the Barbour I got to replace it...) the vest is one of my favorites.

I too like the vest. With it on, you need not wear the dirk belt with that huge buckle. Gives a cleaner look without it.

I am heading to Edinburgh in August. I have been tempted to drop into 48 Thistle Street, but terrified Howie will pour me 1 or 4 drams of his custom blend and I'll walk out with a receipt in my hand!

That's kinda what happened to me; I don't drink, however. I went in to get measured and then ended up buying a black denim kilt. Now, I left without purchase and said I'd have to get back to him. And in a week, I did! I think it helped that I set up the appointment to get fitted and that I wasn't going to buy anything that day. But he sits down with you and puts you into his system so that was helpful.

You should do it. Nice guy and a good conversationalist. If you're like me, you may be his size and can try on some of his own kilts.
