Some people seem like they are never happy unless they make others miserable. I am sorry that this one in your life is your mother. All I can say, is live your life, live it with respect and honor, she may not be happy about it, but you are. I pray you can find the peace within, and know you are in good company with the lot of us. I have had people like that in my life and they made my life miserable, but I realized that it didn't matter what they say... The truth is always evident. I wish you well, and keep on kilting!

In regards to shaving legs. A Co-worked asked if I thought he could wear a kilt. I responded that anyone can. He said, "But I don't think so, 'cause I'd have to wear pantyhose or shave my legs" I was shocked, and tried to explain that neither was needed, after all he doesn't shave his legs when wearing shorts -- he remains unconvinced.

I'm still hoping to find other co-workers to share the sickness with

    Cheers

Sounds to me like he trying to take the pi**. It's like he's try to say that he believes that wearing a kilt is cross-dressing and tantamount to shaving his legs and wearing pantyhose, but just doesn't want to come out and say it straight to your face.

On another note, as an avid scuba diver, I found that having shaved legs made tight wetsuits much more comfortable -- and easier to put on... But since I started wearing kilts I've stopped shaving altogether and just put up with it... It looks much more natural IMO to wear a kilt with my legs as they are...

But most people who know cyclists shave their legs think they do so for aerodynamic reasons, when in fact it is because they get routine post ride leg massages, and those massages are more comfortable and effective if the legs are shaved. True story.

A serious racing cyclist told me that it was because they often had multi-bike pileups, called stacks, and shaved legs made it easier to treat their injuries!

As a former bike racer wannabe myself, let me confirm that in cases of road rash, picking out gravel, sand and dirt from open wounds is far easier when you don't have the fur of a woolly mammoth.

    Don't worry ... I didn't shave my legs.

But I'm rarely seen in anything but full-length hose and kilt.

(Being allergic to greenery and developing rashes at lightest contact has a lot to do with it. The fact that it keeps the little sister from making weird faces is just a plus. Not to mention, IMHO, it looks better.)
