Don't you think this particular joke could rest for a while?
Just a week or so to recoup strength. It seems to be getting a bit weak.

About accents, I was watching my new Monarch of the Glen DVD and was thinking about Hector and Archie have very English accents, Molly too, and yet they love their Scottish heritage and wear kilts.
I would have thought that series might help break down such misconceptions that to wear a kilt one must have a Scottish accent.

Graham,
Your post above reminded me of the very first episode, when Katrina reminds Archie that they went to school together, and that Archie had a Scottish accent back then -- I imagine Archie lost it "on purpose" when he moved to London, so that way he wouldn't take any "grief" over being Scottish.
Another Scot with an English accent in General Sir Peter Graham, who was the former officer commanding of the Gordon Highlanders -- he speaks with a very pronounced English accent, but he is "all Scottish", and it is genuine -- he was one of the most vocal opponents of the regimental amalgamations recently.

Actually in the first season it explains that Archie and Katrina went to grade school together, but that both Archie and Jamie went to the same boarding school as their father when they were old enough (Eton I believe they said). Hence the English accents on the Scots.

Yes, loss of a Scots accent is all down to the education process. I know of several Scots who were sent down here to England for the bulk of their education and, to hear them speak now, you would never know they were Scottish ........ mind you, their parents (or the ones I have met) also speak 'English' without a hint of 'Scots'!

Gorden Ramsey is another good example he has no trace of an accent despite being a scot and a former Rangers player, Hes also a very bad parent!!one of his kids was recently pictured wearing a T shirt emblazened with the flag of st George (patron saint of football hooligans)
Ive always had a bit of a problem with Monarch of the glen its good and all that but most of the main "serious" characters have English accents, and the Scot "Duncan?" is at times dimwitted and a sort of comedy figure theres only Golly whos a carrying the Saltire !! Susan Hampshire has been getting more and more of an accent over the years and to be honest shes not bad at it. For real accents its got to be Taggart!! Mark Macmanus was superb a text book Weegie

Ah, but the scenery is the most powerful character on the show, and that's all Scottish!

Golly...
Golly is the best character on the show, in my 'umble opinion -- part ghillie, part bard, all Highlander!
Besides, it's Golly that advises Duncan on how to act on his first time as the ghillie on the Glorious Twelth with words from that famous Celtic hero -- Val Doonican!
"Walk tall, walk straight and look the world right in the eye..."
(No, I am not a Val Doonican fan -- Andy Stewart yes, Val Doonican no! :mrgreen![Smile](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Golly by far is the best part of the show Simply a no nonsense kind of guy, with a lot of respect from everyone.

Well since you asked.....
I remember a couple years ago on the UK forum, someone suggested this as the perfect hat to wear with your kilt:
