Wan't it originally a book, or was it reverse-adapted?
I've only read the book by Irvine Welsh, myself.

sentiment...
One of my Scottish expat friends originally from Edinburgh has said something similar to Ron's signature quote on occasion -- he doesn't hate the English, but is ashamed of his fellow Scots who don't show pride in being Scottish.
Cheers,
Todd

Trainspotting was originally a book. The sequel is Porno, set ten years later.
I'd add Renton's final line to that quote, "We can't even find a decent civilisation to be colonised by."

Thanks Andrew,
Here's the full quote from the screen play, with a couple of astrisks for those who have abandoned the language of our grandfathers grandfathers grandfathers....didn't that "nasty" word once have a common usage in tribal times...?
"I hate being Scottish. We're the lowest of the fu*king low, the scum of the earth, the most wretched, servile, miserable, pathetic trash that was ever shat into civilization. Some people hate the English, but I don't. They're just wankers. We, on the other hand, are colonized by wankers. We can't even pick a decent culture to be colonized by. We are ruled by effete arseholes. It's a ***** state of affairs and all the fresh air in the world will not make any fu*king difference."
I had to shorten the quote because of the 400 character limit on signatures.
Thanks for the word on the new book.
If you've an interest in the screen play its on line at http://www.godamongdirectors.com/scr...spotting.shtml

I liked the book much better than the movie, the movie kind of played Rents out to be heroic, not so much in the book. I didn't realize there was a sequel either thanks!
btw techinically Trainspotting is a verb. when someone loses their senses and can be found at the station monitoring the comings and goings of trains, they have gone trainspotting. like I believe it was sick boys father.

I've hear of some professional panhandlers making upwards of $800.00 per day. I can't imagine that it's easier money than, say, being a file clerk.
