    Run silent, run kilted?

Actually, now that I think about it, I have a sporran question: I dont know if I'm just wearing it differently or if I've never noticed it before, but whenever I have to dash upstairs (happens more oft than you think), the sporran tends to get wedged between my legs, digging in to the sides of my legs. (we wont even begin to describe the pain from having it bounce straight back.)

Is there a way to avoid this without holding the sporran? Or is this just God's way of telling us not to run and to be modest (as Dear Abby told us)? The sporran is on a chain if that helps.

What about gents with fairly long strides, could a sporran get in an awkward way due to it?

The tassels on a day to day sporran are just annoying-emulate the plain regimental sporran and cut them off.

Whilst if the sporran gets in the way of your stride-be it going up/down stairs--hill- or whatever it is being worn too low.

Thanks for the advice, I'll have to take that into consideration next time I'm kilted (aka tomorrow)

I rather like the drumming effect.

The two shop bourght sporrans (Not the several homemades) I have make a rather nice rhythm to walk to I feel like I'm marching.

So Drum on mateys....ah!Har!.....(Blimey! will I ever get over that "Talk like a Pirate" day we had last year")

    All the Best.....David.

I only notice the drumming anymore when I'm indoors moving around a quiet room. Then I just hold my hand over them to keep the atmosphere quiet. While walking outdoors I let them drum away, and I don't even notice it. People do hear me coming up behind them though when I walk down the street. It gives them a chance to gawk at me over their shoulders before I pass them, and then continue gawking at my swishing pleats.

The drumming sort of keeps my pace going if I am aware of it, but I guess I have just gotten used to it, so I guess that I hadn't really noticed it.

Not much help I know it, but just my thoughts.

Declan, I agree with James. It would appear that you are wearing your sporran far too low if you find it getting between your legs when climbing stairs. The recommended position is for it to rest with the top of the sporran just four fingers' width below the bottom of your kilt belt buckle.

Again, there are no rules, but this is considered to be the best position from both the comfort and aesthetic angles.

I quite like the drumming also David - it's my non-kilted walking companions who do all the complaining!

Of course, with my two superb Freelander sporrans, it's a different sound altogether ........ a 'clacking' as the slices of antler make contact with each other. Quite delightful
