Now, I'll whisper this so that no-one else hears me: May I be blunt? I think the colours of your new 'Freelander' would both compliment, and be complemented by, your Gunn tartan rather than the one you are wearing in the photo (which I don't think I recognise). I am sorry! There's no malice in my comment. It's just what I do - criticise!!!

No offense taken Hamish. The tartan is a lesser known Morrison from USAK. It's the kilt I slip into when I get home, lovely, loose and comfy. I never wear it out of the house.
The sporran should look OK with Ancient Morrison (almost identical to ancient Gunn) and maybe Black Watch? what do you think Hamish?

Look out! He mentioned 'Black Watch' and 'Hamish' in the same breath.
If anyone needs me I'll be in the bomb shelter.

Ah, we each have one of those Graham! Rather like a favourite pair of slippers!!!

Since I do not (yet!) have a green Freelander, I cannot be sure of the precise colour but, yes, I agree with you. In fact, it would compliment virtually any of the navy/green/black tartans (and vice versa, of course!).
Oh dear! Now you've set me thinking about ordering a third Freelander by publishing that photo ...... and just when I have decided to give them up for Lent!!!

Very funny I am sure, Galant
You know, I have no objection to anyone wearing Black Watch, as long as that person is not me
It is just that I cannot understand anyone actually selecting Black Watch (or Royal Stewart) when there are so many exciting, glorious and beautiful tartans out there. Naturally, I respect those who choose it for its military links and importance, but it's those who opt for its ordinaryness or its safe-tartan element that I cannot fathom
I guess I have just been around too long

I like it because I'm not one that often wears bright colors. My wardrobe ( well ...the clothes I actually wear ) consists mainly of black, dark grays, dark browns, dark blues, and dark reds. It's not that I'm "Goth" or anything, I just prefer muted colors.

Ah Ha! Iolaus, I can see you need taking in hand!
On the whole, men's clothing is dull, boring and limited. The shops are full of browns, greys and dark blues, thought by the manufacturers to be what men want. Nonsense! We've been conditioned, probably by our womenfolk, over the past few generations. Men were always the 'Peacocks' but what happened? Now, women can dress in any colour, or combination of colours, under the Sun. They have choices of thousands of styles and designs. Their clothing departments might occupy say 2000 square feet of space in a store, whilst the menswear is given 50 square feet! It's ridiculous! Why should they have all the fun?!
Kilts give us chaps the chance we need to begin to break out of this situation. Not only because they are kilts (as opposed to trousers) but because of the myriad of wonderful colours in our tartans, and even in plain kilting fabrics.
Come on now, escape from the shackles of dullness - explore (and exploit) your hidden subconscious longing for colour. Don't be left behind!

I was always one to be drawn to dark colours. I loved black and wore it often. I also loved dark blues. I still do, and to be fair, I look good in them. I get told so often.
However, I'm always challenged by my brother, who is an opposite. He creates his own styles and loves to be more outrageous. Now, I'll never be like him, nor do I aim to be, but more and more I challenge myself to wear brighter things and more daring patterns.
It's hard to do, but with steps in the right direction, I find that breaking out of the mentality is very similar to breaking out fo the mentality that I have to wear pants - and what will people thing of me.
I'm not talking about wearing Canary yellow shirts, big sun glasses or hawaian pattern by the way. I started by just brighter version of colours I suited. I also found white and red was a good combination, and an easy in-road for me was English football shirts.

"...steps in the right direction"
Just this morning, I ordered one of those SW Heavyweights (my first non-UK). Since this will be the first thing in my closet that actually has a pattern (other than my flannel shirts), I think that qualifies as a "step". Combining color and kilt might be too much culture shock!!
BTW, I think we're OT enough to get spanked by the Mod now.
