Heavier, lighter, it all depends on what for. For an athletic kilt for going running or working out you definately dont want heavier, thats exactly what the Spartan is designed for.

For those of you that dont know but are on the UK board as well, I am Duke Dingo there. (and many of the above comments are mine)

Thanks for transfering over the info!

    Modesty Panel

strip of the material about 4 inches wide and just a few inches
shorter than the length of the kilt. Its free hanging except for
where it is attached at the very top. Now, where you to grab your
apron and lift it up, 'exposing' yourself what would really happen is
that the fabric strip would still be hanging directly between your
legs providing cover. Same deal if you happened to be sitting on the
quad sled machine at the gym and bent your knees on the downstroke.
That little strip is going to prevent you from getting your gym
membership revoked and criminal charges filed.

I have used exactly the same system as this on several kilts that I have made in lighter fabrics. I call the free floating apron a “Modesty Panel”.

This arrangement provides more layers of material where you need it and the fabric drops down between your legs when seated in case the upper apron does not drape between your legs. This would have been useful for the army officer that was recently seated next to the Queen!

    Red face

I guess my question is in regards to the fly up, I just have a hard time reconciling that light weight of material not spending most of it's time around my chest! LOL is it about the same weight as the windsocks? if so I am scared because that really flies! Of course I would love to have one for the gym and ditch my sportkilt...hmmm pretty cheap. Have to consider this.

Please... someone OUTSIDE of UtiliKilts go take a look at these things (other than the web pictures) and start a new thread on them. BEFORE it happens, let's not hijack a pin-point thread here with reactions. I'm SURE there's much to be said.

I'll see you at the "Review Thread"!!!

Two things, first, I want to share some photos of me in my Spartan so you can see it live so to speak.

    http://josh2917.fotopic.net/

Second, I'd like to point out to Jimmy that I am 'outside' of Utilikilts, though I do crew lead some events for them. They dont pay me, and I only do it because I strongly believe in the product, its utility, and its quality.
You wont ever hear me say anything nice about the T-shirts or belts they sell because I dont think those particular products are anywhere near worth the money. When we talk about kilts, thats another story. (Though they did just come out with some grey shirts that are a much heavier material, those I support and the tank tops are good too)

As for blowing up, all I can say is that it hasnt happened to me yet. The material is light but it breathes unlike the windsocks (its heavier than that too, by far). That means wind blows through it as much as against it thus mitigating much of the strength of the wind. Also, because its a step in and not a wrap apron it makes it much harder to blow up at all. The apron cant blow open, the whole thing has to 'Marilyn' and it just doesnt seem to catch enough air for that.

I am so glad I can finally talk about these babies!!

The Spartan is the latest all-new kilt from Utilikilts. It is modeled
after professional boxer's trunks... incredibly lightweight, wide
elastic waistband, drawstring, and a single zippered wallet pocket in
    the back.

You have never owned or felt anything as lightweight as this kilt. It
    is amazing.

Now, I know some of you are scoffing right now, saying "No way man", or
"That's not for me at all", and I understand your feelings. Tony and I
were total skeptics as well. We thought the Spartan was a too-far a
deviation from the UK norm, and only a "certain group of men" would buy
    it.

Well, we are both pleased to say that we were dead wrong!!

Even holding the kilt in hand, you are doubtful. But the moment you
step into it (because the elastic waistband is the closure, the snaps
are just cosmetic!), a grin comes over your face and you start
laughing. It is simply the most amazing thing to wear! Tony and I are
both converts. The customer yesterday that I forced to put one on, he
    is now a convert.

When Steven puts his on it is like he has just had 12 espressos in a
row! He zooms around the office, jumps over stuff, races G.O.D. up and
down the stairs, and uses his trademark happy-yell of "WAHOO!" even
more often. He laughs about how animated he gets when wearing the
Spartan, and says "It's the kilt, man! I haven't had any coffee today
    at all!"

Throw on a sweatshirt, some white tennis shoes, and a black Spartan,
and you are ready for any activity. It really is a blast...

Finally, I like to think of the Spartan as my Driving Kilt. It is so
lightweight and comfortable, it is like driving naked... and we all
know what fun THAT can be! ;-) Seriously, though, driving becomes a
different experience in this kilt because the boys ain't cramped (like
with pants), the cargo pockets aren't in the way (as sometimes happens
with UKs other kilts), and even if the pleats bunch up under you, it is
never uncomfortable because they are so light weight.

Try the Spartan. You'll love it!

I was wondering which shirts were being worn with the UKs in the wedding photos. Megan Haas at Utilikilts helped me contact Trevelyan Bloomfield, and I was given this link:

    Spartans

Dont tell Rob but I phoned Utilikilts today and ordered two. I dont think I will be wearing em to work but around the house? I was asked 3 times if i was sure I wanted 27 inch length. I never realised how many hobbits and munchkins are out there. When asked how to spell Cheshire I said like the cat in Alice in Wonderland. Bless her heart she then wrote the next line of the address as Wonderland, UK. Geezus.
