    Bubba,
You and I need to go have some beers. We think the same, even to the point of using the same responses.
We'll have to ditch Graham, though. That guy's just plain trouble!

And I would just plain love to visit either one of you gentleman, or both, or have you near enough for us to hoist one in a pub, but I insist that Graham be a part of itl

I do play the pipes and sometimes when I'm talking about them, people ask if I where the kilt when I play. The kilt and the pipes are too well associated with each other to be thought of seperately by most people. A lot of pipers would like to be able to play in their regular clothes, so it's a sword that cuts both ways.

I love pipes too, especially the uillean variety, but **aaaargh**.

I had that question four times the other day and after a while it wears thin.

If I see someone wearing a baret I don't ask him where his brie and wine are. If I see someone wearing a turban I don't ask them where their scimitar is. If I see someone wearing knickers I don't ask them where their golf clubs are.

I know folks are just trying to be friendly and they mean noharm. Getting asked about your bagpipes is a lot better than being harrassed about the kilt, but folks out there, give it a rest, already.

    OK, 'nuff ranting.

Frankly, I am pleased to admit that I have NEVER been asked, "Where are your bagpipes?"! Maybe it's a North American 'thing' because the closest I came to it was when someone in the New York subway system (two years ago) asked me, "Which band do you play with?" At that time I hadn't the faintest idea what he was talking about ....... and told him so!

On second thoughts, there are very few pipe bands in England and that would be one of the last things to occur to people when they see a chap in a kilt!

See Ham, that just points out the difference between those on this side of the pond and those on your side (IMHO). We see a kilt and think Oh, somebody Scottish, they must be in a pipe band because why would they wear a kilt, and I think in the UK and Europe, people look beyond, or ignore, the clothes. My own 2 cents, I may be wrong, but in most of my trips to Europe, mainly to Germany, I found the people much more open to new ideas, and more tolerant. Not to say that people did not have strong opinions!
