I sent you an e-mail, but...
Are you sure Dread's okay with you giving out his address?
I understand the delicate relationship some poeple have with the Internet and personal information, y'know?

I had thought of Paypaling him something.
As for the "This is not offically supported" blah blah blah... *** is with that? I'm a bit confused and more than a little offended that there needed to be an official statement that the site does not officially support (or um... not support?) this whole thing.
Thats just a bit... political and cold for my tastes.

Don't recollect asking for sanction, endorsement by, or permission from Website owner or Moderators.

I had thought of sending him a gift card (the pre-loaded plastic kind) from a local grocery chain, but I'd need to know what chain to get it from for his convenience. I think this is something that could easily go unreported.

Didn't suggest, infer or imply that you had.
All I did was make it clear that the charitable effort was not established or endorsed by the owner of this Web site.
As a matter of fact, I ~think~ I indicated that it was your idea. And not a bad idea at that.

I think the idea of helping a kilted brother is commendable! Well done Doc Hudson!
To all:
In these litigious times, Mike1 not only made the right choice for the good of this site; he made the ONLY responsible choice he could make in the absence of Hank. It might look cold at first glance but without XMarks, Dread would be unknown to us and without our help.
It needed to be said. And it's not Mike1's fault that it needed to be said.

My question being, WHY did it need to be said? It still grated on me as cold... or something.

Damax:
It needed to be said in case there was some confusion about whose idea it was to assist Dreadbelly with monetary donations, and to represent Hank in his absence when the thread was first started. It wasn't "cold or political", just a statement of fact. In this day and age, sometimes caveats are essential, especially when dealing with monetary donations. I discovered this not too long ago when our department was collecting money for Hurricane relief.
Yes, it can be perceived as "cold", but believe me, Mike did not make the statement with any malicious intent.
What if someone started sending Hank donations via Paypal because there was confusion as to whose project this was? Mike was simply explaining in an objective statement that this effort was not "established or endorsed" by Xmarks and its owner/admin Hank. I'm sure Hank will want to read and digest the thread before commenting one way or the other.
Regards,
Todd

Todd,
Please note that nothing was said to suggest sending monetary donations anywhere but directly to Dreadbelly. I challenged the members, and offered to provide a mailing address. When a PayPal comment was made, I told them to send cash, check or money order.
This is not and was never intended to be organized, or representing XMarkstheScot.Com as a business or website. It is all about whether or not this is a "Kilted Community" or just another website.
If it is a community, members should help members in need of help. And I'm happy to say that over a dozen people have contacted me to get Dread's mailing address. None of them were part of the XMarks Administration so far, it has been the ordinary members, many of them very recent members, who have stepped up to help a friend in need. And I'm proud to say that some of the donors have been Brother Masons.
You, Bear, and Mike might be right, but I don't think anyone saw this as anything but an effort of men of good will to help a brother fallen on hard times.
