I think it's funny that we - as a group - recommend various places based on our good experiences, and everyone else goes out and gets them. Which is great - I'm all for sharing good experiences. I'm just waiting for an X-Marks gathering where everyone is wearing a Thomson Grey USA Kilt, a charcoal jacket and waistcoat from Scottishkilts.net, and a Freelander sporran. I guess at the very worst we'll all look like a pipe band. ;)

Bryan...firmly in the vanguard it seems...
None taken, I was just taking the piss. David from Scottishkilts used to be on here for awhile himself in the begining.
Enjoy the jacket, I have found I use it way more than I ever thought I would. Now, which tartan to get for that kilt from them........

It certainly does go in phases doesn't it? The tartan may change and the accessory, but it does happen quite frequently. Too bad not many of us can play the pipes.

Oh, and I'm certainly not knocking anyone for going out and purchasing this jacket/waistcoat set. As soon as I have $300 saved up I'm ordering one for myself! ![Smile](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
I guess I probably won't get much use out of it on the backpacking trip though....

Yes, Andrew, I am guessing it it not such an essential accessory on the Applalachain rail, or the other trails that you hike. Would love to do some of your hikes myself!

for me they are a luxury to be bought only after a decent number of kilts have been aquired. Kilts come first!
I'll not wear mine often, but it will be useful when I do need it. I rarely go to formal occasions (anything more than casual is formal) but it's nice to know I can hold my own at such an event.
My advice Andrew is that you would be overdressed in this jacket while hiking

Yeah, I think the waistcoat would bind under the shoulder straps of the pack, and the jacket isn't cut to let me swing my hiking poles in my arms. ;)
Of course, I wouldn't be the first to attempt an "expedition" in a tweed coat. George Mallory and Andrew Irvine attempted to summit Mt. Everest in 1924. They weren't successful, though, so maybe I won't wear my Scottishkilts.net jacket and waistcoat up Everest.
