I have always been a laid back sort of guy, Derek, and I've been wearing the kilt exclusively for so long now (7 years in May) that I have fogotten how I was before then! I can't say that I am more relaxed necessarily, because I am now so much more alert and aware of what is going on around me - much of the time. However, Ian says he is more physically comfortable when cilted/kilted and that is certainly true for me, so if 'relaxed' is being comfortable then I suppose I am by default, relaxed, at ease, laid back, etc., etc.

I don't think so. I usually don't bother with a kilt unless I'm already in a laid back mood. Maybe I should try it the other way around.

For sure Derek,
Much less stressful gritting of teeth and sudden wincing due to testicular discomfort when kilted.

Derek,
I definitely feel more relaxed in a kilt. I think it's a combination of things. For me there is the comfort factor, but also factors of confidence and appearance. I'm considerably more confident in myself wearing a kilt, and from an appearance standpoint, I look much better in a kilt than I do in trousers. I simply do not feel self-conscious even though I know I look different. Frankly, it has amazed me!
