kilt in NZ

I had no idea you guys would have such a reaction to my Google search! Like Graham, & knew lots of Scots went to NZ, & knew there should be some kilt makers there. I've even bought a sporran for my youngest from an antiques dealer in NZ.

I guess your reactions mean I can be forgiven for thinking that Jacob could've Googled the info for himself? ;-)

I certainly don't need any special titles, but if anyone knows where I can get a thistle-shaped cookie (biscuit) cutter, I'd be more than happy. :grin:

After I saw your post I thought, "I could have just done that myself, why didn't I?" but since you did, some form of thank you was in order.

My brother says that they saw one guy in a kilt down there. Apparently it had an apron in front but no pleats in back, just straight fabric. That is a skirt, right? Everyone in the group recognized it as a kilt so there would not be any issues with acceptance.

What would you guys suggest for a kilt on a budget for a guy that will be in NZ 'til at least may, possibly longer. Would a swk heavyweight be too heavy? He is fairly warm blooded and does not get cold easily. He leaves his window fan on during the winter when it is in the 40s. He isn't hot really, just not bothered by it. I was thinking a freedom kilt but he would rather have wool and a somewhat traditional style. So there is the SWK HW, and what else?

He has lost 6 inches in the past 6 months and has had to buy some new clothes and punch extra holes in his belt. We are sending some of his old clothes that he out grew width wise a long time ago and they might be a little big on him. If I can get the kilt before we send that we could send it all at once. Unless direct shipping from the company is cheaper as would be the case for in NZ shops.

Yes, it's a skirt. Why would anyone want to do without the pleats? The sway of the pleats has a lot to do with the appeal (at least from a looker's point of view).

The SWK seems like a good choice, at least until he gets his weight where he wants it. And good for him for getting it down. :-)
