    jfellrath,
Your Irish American kilt is pleated to sett? Mine is pleated to stripe.

    Southern Breeze and others,
What is your kilt pleated to (sett or stripe)?

    GlassMan,

The shipping on my Irish American kilt was $12.90 (total kilt price was $117.83). It was shipped Parcel Force and then USPS.

I don't know if they would have done it to the stripe if asked... I assumed by the price and such that they had a few in stock that they wanted to clear out. OF course, I could be wrong.

These are not off-the-rack kilts. Each is made to order.

Feeling comfortable here, and no longer embarrased to ask:

what is the difference between pleated to sett and pleated to stripe?

Pleated to the stripe means that the fabric is folded so that the same vertical stripe shows on each pleat - and it can be done to any vertical stripe, so how it's done can radically change the look of the kilt; pleated to the set means that the pleats are folded in such a way as to recreate the original pattern.

One of the kiltmakers here took a piece of tartan, and progressively folded it into all the ways it could be pleated; it was pretty impressive to see how different it could look by folding it differently

Thanks, so just to check that I have it 100% clear: my kilt is pleated to set - correct?

That is right, pleated to the set, and nicely centred too by the look of it - that is a vertical stripe with some emphasis is placed centre back - presumably there is the same stripe centre front?
