AW, Todd, you ruined my fun.

And, of course, the man is correct. The boys, in direct contradiction of orders, had maintained the kilted order of dress as opposed to the standardised battle dress..

I've seen a picture in Stephen Wood's book, "The Auld Alliance: Scotland and France, the military connection", of a Cameron piper (in kilt), playing for French troops in the Maginot Line during the "Phoney War" of 1939-40.

And as for your fun: C'est le guerre

    Cheers,

    Todd

I believe that would be the Irish Regiment of Canada.

Either I am going to have to choose my words better, so that Google is not so easy, or I'm going to have to disqualify you Todd.

Yes, the answer is the 2nd Batallion, The Irish Regiment of Canada. Originally, both the 1st & 2nd wore kilts, but the 1st Batallion was dispanded.

They also happen to be the only Irish Regiment who have their own tartan. Based, originally, on the Ulster (yellow).

I've been disqualified from trivia contests before!

I use www.regiments.org, TF Mills excellent site about the regiments and corps of the British and Commonwealth armies, past and present. In all fairness though, I have read about the Canadian Irish; their tartan is featured in Zaczek's "World Tartans".

    Cheers,

    Todd
