I'm with Glassman on this. That picture looks good, Rex. That height, or a slightly higher, would look great.

    Thumbs up

I agree that it looks most distinguished on you sir. My own kilts migrate from the top to the bottom of the knee. When I wore my perfectly custom tailored Freedom Kilt to my usual haunt two sundays past, the first comment I got was, "Love the mini!"

An alternative to hemming that I have indulged in recently on a couple of ebay won kilts is to run a double straight stitch round the intended hem length, cut the excess material off about a half inch below that and then pull out all of the horizontal threads. This gives you a fringe round the bottom and saves the expense or trouble of hemming. Definetely non-traditional, but cool.

Learn from the past but live in the present, I say. And kilt on, dude.
    I've kilt for less.

That makes 3 of us. I think it looks great Rex. The kilt being worn higher is something I am still getting used to myself.

Now that I've seen the pic, I agree that wearing it a bit higher will do.

The new kilt and I went to dinner tonight with friends - more on that in a sec - and also to catch an hour or so of C/W dancing. This time I wore a solid red button-down shirt, which worked well with the predominant red in the tartan. I also hiked it up as far as feasibly and esthetically possible, and I felt that the length was just about right.

    So, no hemming required.

Which is a good thing, because I'm the sort of lazy-butt who asks the dry-cleaners to sew buttons on for me.

¶ A friend called this week to meet me for dinner. What was I hankerin' for, he asked. I suggested either Nicholson's - the place where it is alleged you can get your first ale free if you arrive kilted - or Andy's Mediterranean Grille, a favorite neighborhood Lebanese restaurant. Well, the girls behind the bar loved the kilt and set up a hookah for me, on the house, as my reward. It turns out that some guy from Scotland comes periodically to promote his Scotch (in addition to local wildman Jeff Topping) wearing a kilt, and that the normally befezzed, Lebanese owner, Andy himself, dons his own for the occasions. Before we sat down to eat, Andy stopped by to say how much he liked the kilt. (Note to self: kilt night in Cincinnati might include a stop here.)

    Thanks, everyone, for your input.

Rex, I agree with the others. It looks very well as it is. A little higher on the waist and it will be perfect. It would be a shame to hem it.

I think it looks good at that length, but I'm slightly biased.
(And in an effort to avoid future hijacking, YES I know the homemade sporran doesn't match the shoes, but at least the hose match the shirt and the pullover.)

I'm a member of the "must see knee tribe"

Nothing wrong with kilts "touching ribcage", so pulling it up like others said already might be the solution.
