Mike and the other mods - I am a guest in your house. When I accept your generous hospitality I also accept your rules.

Phil, remember that Colin, Todd, Nelson, David, Rufus and myself are guests, as well. It's Hank's house.
And Jerry, there are days there is absolutely nothing sane about this zoo.

Well, I hope it wasnŽt me mentioning the N-word that shut down the thread!
But I want to add my thanks to all Mods that keep this forum working.
Having been on another kilt oriented board until lately when I left the name-calling behind me I now doubly appreciate the good work you do here!

Exactly, we are just helping out in the kitchen, he's hosting the party.

Now, I'm getting hungry!!! Will kilts be served?
In all seriousness:
Thanks Hank for creating and letting all of us share in this thing.
Thanks to the moderators for keeping things in check and making it a place I am not nervous to let my family and friends read (VERY important in my line of work ), even if it costs an interesting thread or 2.
Thanks to all the posters for the many times of self-policing.
I LOVE this forum!!!!

First, thanks to those who keep this place tidy. I appreciate being able to be a guest here.
Second, I didn't see the original thread, so I'm viewing all this through the "hypothetical" lens; my perceptions may be missing some key facts. If I'm off track, just keep doing what you're doing well.
I was just thinking about the whole "where did my thread go" emotion... You moderators may already do this. You may have tried it and decided not to continue because it wasn't working, etc.
...... but if it were a thread which I had been contributing to and it just vanished, I would be less likely to reopen the can of worms on the forums if I simply got a notice from the mod saying, "thread deleted because of xyz". If nothing else, I'd at least take it up with the moderator privately rather than in open forum posts.
Knowing the 'whys' may not be a panacea for all hurt feelings when a thread is deleted, but it certainly helps to know the process behind it. The mod's public explanation in this instance was very thoughtful. I'm sure many of us acknowledge the need for 'family friendly' but never even thought how our language here could affect key word indices on search engines. Thanks for helping create a positive environment for us, guys. We DO appreciate it.

If we lock down a thread we usually try and Pm the person that started the thread. The same goes for deleted posts. I always add a reason to the post or try and PM the poster.
Sometimes people want to take it up on the forum again, or they go to another forum and take it up there. Whatever works for them I guess, but I don't get it either.
We are all more than happy to exchange a PM to explain the situation, or reasoning. I have been a member of this site since the beginning, and I am happy to give something back.

For the record, I think the mods here do a great job of keeping things rolling and usually I have no issue with a thread being locked when it takes a turn for the worse.
If a moderator see's a need to remove an entire thread the only expectation is to notify the post originator with a curteous tone and explanation.
