"If we outlaw kilts and pipes, only outlaws will have kilts and pipes"
"A day spent in the fields and woods, or on the water should not count as a day off our allotted number upon this earth."

That Mencken quote is right on the money.
"But they are not being totally hard-hearted about pipers and kilt wearers. They want to create a sanctuary on the Isle of Skye in which bagpipers may play and dress as they please."
Now, substitute any ethnic minority group for "pipers and kilt weares" to see how asinine this is.
I read the opening paragraph, and immediately thought the headline should have read, "How to get your a** kicked in Edinburgh".

The whole thing is pretty dumb...that would be like telling Americans that baseball and rock'n'roll are holding us back, that we need to out law them to progress, not gonna work:rolleyes:

The date on that article is 1999. Where's that guy today? The Bifurcated Protection Program?

This guy is saying that the Scots need to abandon the "hackneyed" symbols of bagpipes, kilts, shortbread, and haggis, and yet I found this little gem:
"Scotland may never have an opportunity quite like this again. We must clutch the thistle."
I also notice he doesn't seem to have anything against scotch whisky.
An uair a théid an gobhainn air bhathal 'se is feàrr a bhi réidh ris.

I found that pretty interesting as well...abandon certain traditions, keep others.

This comes from the very first Ubersausage in Edinburgh. It was meant as a joke but we forgot to tell anyone that and as a result it got taken very seriously indeed. Ciaran received death threats and was chased down the Royal Mile by a piper with a knife

I'm gobsmacked!! a ghastly thought!! discombobulated!! However, the twit did appear back in 1999 and nothing will ever come from the foolishness. Let the dog sleep.
Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?
