Lovat Green Balmoral
Andrew,
In February of this year I bought a Lovat Green Balmoral from this website
http://www.scotyard.com
It cost $41.00 plus $11.00 shipping.
It has a black ribbon band around the headband and a black ribbon cockade.
I think the Balmoral looks nice and I wear it often in cooler weather.
It might look nice if you have the Lovat Green tweed jacket. (Which is high on my want list.)
There are some pictures at my yahoo site below.

Yes, I have a broad blue bonnet from the S.T.M. (Scottish Tartans Museum) 8 years ago.

I have a 22" head and it fits perfect with enough room to tighten it slightly.
I believe it was machine made. I'm not sure if it's the exact one they offer now. I make my own bonnets now a days...

I'm in the S.T.M. about twice a month as a costumer, and I asure you that any accessories you're contemplating from them is well worth it.

Oh yeah, I know! I should have a package arriving tomorrow from the Tartan Museum. And then another package a couple weeks out from there. One learns patience in these things though, as most sites have delivery times that seem to be close to the same (a few weeks, especially if you are of the larger persuasion... they have to get the items, then send them to you, as sizes for larger guys are rarely kept on hand). Save for places like SWK, where they sell what's on hand in their online store, and have a seperate little page for their catalog.
Everything so far has been well worth the wait too. So I really cannot complain there. I can however, be anxious, chew my nails, be eager... ha ha ha. So, those older style bonnets seem like a good buy then, especially if they are adjusted to fit with a ribbon.

I got a navy blue balmoral from the old tartanweb site when it was still a family business. Sadly they were swallowed up by one of the big operations. Its a real quality product that I wear often. I'm sorry they're gone now.

It is sleeve with a ribbon it it that is tied to fit your head. I have a green one too (to match the car . . . )

Ok, so just how DOES one measure one's head for a hat?? How does it translate? If I'm a 7 3/8 I''m quite sure that a tape measure stretched around my head is going to measure more than that. (Or am I nuts?)
Any thoughts?

Check this out:

...Shall we assume that the circumference of da head is then divided by pi?
I don't know if that's the way it works but why not?

My black Balmoral is not adjustable. I don't know about the ones from Matt Newsome's museum.
I just pulled the trigger on the SF green. The prices are the best i've seen on balmorals, as long as the quality is anywhere near what the owner claims.

That WWI Canadian khaki looks really nice. I might have to bookmark that page for a later-date purchase.
MacWage: Yup, that's the bonnet that I'm thinkling of. So it's tied to fit, this is the second or third time someone has mentioned that. I will say it's encouraging. I get paid on Friday...guess what I'm buying?
Ha ha ha. Thanks for the input, and the links!

Canadian Khaki Balmoral
Andrew,
I just received a Canadian Khaki balmoral from glengary and I would say in my opinion it is quite a bit more dark brown than it appears in their on-line picture, at least on my monitor.
I didn't send it back, but it was not what I was looking for to wear with khaki slacks and a brown leather jacket.
It was made in Pakistan, but the quality was decent. Also, it seemed about a half size smaller than I expected.
My next one will be from the scotland yard. They advertise a "fawn" color, but don't show a picture in that color.
Not trying to dissuade you, but this was my experience with two different companies.
