Actually the material that kilt is made out of is designed for medical garments (much heavier than scrubs) and it has a sort of protective coating on the threads. It stays cleaner than you might think, and most of the stains that do end up on it will wash out without much trouble.
It's designed to be resistant to blood and bodily fluids, so its pretty tough stuff.

The kilt would need a force field around it to stay clean on me!

Okay, wore the "outfit" to work today for a tasteful Halloween look. Got a picture that shows the shoes for the full effect.

Still the medical white UK original.

Daring and very bold, watch out Hamish!
I work with paint and white is the traditional colour for painters' overalls. I've wondered about a white kilt, but for me it would soon be multicoloured.

Turns out you gentlemen are correct.
I'm on the board of the local domestic violence prevention agency. They had a pot luck lunch yesterday. Had so much fun with friends didn't notice that a drop of lasagna sauce had hit the kilt. Guess it was tomato sauce. Somehow landed under the flap of a side pocket.
Noticed it last night when I went to wash the kilt. Figured no problem from what I'd heard about the stain resistance of the material. Put some Shout on it, let it sit, then washed it.
Stain was still there when the wash was finished. So, while the kilt was still damp added more Shout, let it sit about an hour, refreshing the Shout from time to time. Then washed it again. Still some residual stain.
But, was tired, the stain was under the pocket flap, so I hung it to dry.
So, guess I'm gonna have to content with that...and, hey, if it ain't stain proof as mentioned maybe then I can dye it after all.....

Well it's SUPPOSED to be stain resistant, but hey, that just means you can use bleach.
