The Scots like a drink , but that does not make us alcoholics.

I'm Scots-Irish and I'm an alcoholic...
Well I am, but so are Russians, Germans and Indians so what exactly is the point?
There is a 12 step program but I never could get past wearing pants....;)

Well... I'm Irish and German. I may be a drunk, but at least I'm capable of following orders!
Order of the Dandelion, The Houston Area Kilt Society, Bald Rabble in Kilts, Kilted Texas Rabble Rousers, The Flatcap Confederation, Kilted Playtron Group.

You're suppost to say "I'm a drunk not an alcoholic, alcoholics go to meetings"
I'm not trying to offend anyone, that's just how I answer. int: (I had to use a new smilie).

I'd like to comment on this, but right now I've got too much blood in my alcohol system to think straight.

Chalk it up to a comment of poor taste by an ignorant person.

I have yet to meet a group of people who do not pride themselves on drinking. Every culture has a history of drinking, and alcohol is a social item that has been firmly engrained in every national history.

I'm a "little of both" myself, and never touch the stuff. I've also received shocked responses to not drinking simply because I'm tattooed. The ignorant: can't kill them.

Anyway we could work on legislation to change this?
Seriously though, I just thought the guys original comment was a funny place to go... not nice skirt or something equally ignorant, but "guess that makes you kind of an alcoholic?"
Oh well, I guess along with the poor we'll always have the stupid with us as well.

Same here; my family moved to Ireland from Strathclyde and Ayrshire and found some bonnie lasses to tumble with
I actually am an alcoholic, so I don't touch the stuff anymore, though I dearly miss Guinness Extra Stout and a wee dram o' Irish Whiskey. But the quality of my life is not worth drinking, since I am one of those unlucky enough to have developed addictive behaviours.
Captain: Yes, we'll always have the stupid among us. The good news is that their stupidity is quite entertaining!
Still, it was a rather funny exchange. Some folks tend to automatically assume that if you drink, and happen to be of Irish, Scottish, or even Native American descent that you must be an alcoholic. In the words of comedian Ron White, however, you can't fix stupid.
