    clashing of the tartans

    The period of dress that everyone is wearing in those photos taken in New Zealand is 1745 Jacobite , in which most people wore a mix of tartans anything thing that was available at the time etc. Most people these days wear victorian style highland wear ( apart from re enactors and kilt wearers in Oamaru ) that has many rules i.e which tartans to wear with what etc. The jacobite look is more over the top as you can mix tartans etc.

    I would expect that after having hundreds of orcs running around the place for a couple of years, guys in highland dress would seem tame by comparison!
