Wow, never even thought about that. A Dremel tool would fulfill so many wishes I have. I mean to begin with, it is just a plain cool tool to add the the arsenal. Then you add on all the stuff you can do with it, and WOW. Almost as good as a Roto-zip. And I mean this in all seriousness. I am a serious DIY'er, and every project must include the purchase of another tool for that specific project.

My personal take on the Dremel is that there are a myriad of specialized wood working tools that do a much better job than the Dremel tool at specific jobs.
BUT
If you don't have a barn sized workshop and can't have one of everything, the Dremel is an amazing jack of all trades.
I will never be an artist in wood like Rab Gordon, I am a tinkerer. But my dremel tool has allowed me to do stuff that is actually much better than my real skill level. Plus, as you noted, there are lots of really cool attachments for the Dremel.

That's a beautiful piece of work, Jamie. And so well presented. Did you make the box too?

The wooden box is from Michaels (Art supply store chain). For $4 I couldn't make a better box. Though I did stain and decorate it and make the pillow.
Cheers

Actually, it may be better. I'm not sure about torque capabilities between the two devices, but I'm 95% certain that Dremel has attachments identicle to those you can get for a Roto-zip tool. I KNOW Dremel has a router attachment and has drill bit like cutting bits... just like the Roto-zip.
Given that, I think the Roto-zip may only have a higher torque capacity, but I'm not 100% certain on that.

I would tend to agree. I also could never pull off in wood what so many others have been able to do... mostly due to time and lack of specialized equipment. The Dremel, or a very similar device such as B&D's RTZ, is extremely useful.

The box, in and of itself, as you have improved it, is also a work of art, Panache. Congrats!

That's a beautiful knife Panache.
Maybe I should start learning from my Granddad, he's a keen amateur woodworker. Though I doubt I have the skill to make anything usable.

Excellent job.
I need to finish the two sgian blanks I've got lying in my shop, so I'll take this as an official kick in the rear. Thanks!

First off---in the very nicest way possible, I just hate you, Panache! (Tongue in cheek.) Second of all, re: the Dremel comment, I think the Dremel is like a Leatherman---it's not the RIGHT tool for any job, but it's the right tool for ANY job!

That is beautiful. Simply beautiful.
I'vebeen thinking about making at least one with a Damascus blade. I would love to see pics on attaching the handle to the blade tang. I like custom stuff (1911's, guitars, etc) but I've never attempted a knife.

Check out this link. It's not for a sgian, but the process is the same. Complete with pix and step-by-step instructions.
