Fair question. I wear a pair similar to these from Orvis:

I actually like boots for casual wear with a kilt, i just don't like the "Pimped" work boots from Timberland. Although I have several pairs of other Timberland styles. And no matter how they dress up sneakers I wouldn't wear them with a kilt. Granted I don't wear sneakers much except for working out.

I see. I have a pair of Timberlands that I *do* wear with the kilt, but they're not the style seen on their "custom" page - they're a brown hiker/urban hiker style, similar to the "Euro Hiker" but discontinued a few years ago.

The black boots that I generally wear are Bates Enforcer Ultra-Lites.

I kinda' hate to do this, but those are chucks; they're a type of boot.

Around here (Phoenix Metro Area, Arizona), "Chucks," or "Chuck Taylors" are Converse high-top sneakers.

    "Chukkas" are boots.

I understand the confusion, but I think of "Chucks" as Chuck Taylors, a style of sneaker, as opposed to "chukkas" which is how I refer to my boots. By the way the chukka picture you found are the ones I wear. I couldn't find them when I was searching for a pic to post.
