Wow, you learn something every day on these boards. I did not even know such a thing existed.

Is there a Chirstmas gift I could get him that is like a symbol of fraternity, friendship, or loyality? I want it to be Scottish somehow.

I will 5th the idea of a quaich. I picked on up last year and am very proud to display it. I have used it a few times in the last year too.

Here's the one I picked up last year http://scottishkilts.net/products/sc...ch_quaich.html

I _______ the motion for the Quaich. Why not ALSO give him a small (but good) bottle of Scotch to help break it in?

I'd go along with the quaich suggestion. A large quaich is a communal drinking cup which is often handed round at burns suppers and other parties in Scotland, but a miniature quaich in pewter or silver plated makes a nice individual present and ornament even if your friend is teetotal.
