I adamantly refuse to use paypal. About 80% pf "phishing" scams involve paypal because of their dreadful lack of server security. Instead of locking up their images (which can be done by competent techies) they allow anyone to link to them, enabling the phishing jerks to masquerade to their heart's content. If your credit card is a Visa, you have about a dozen options to protect yourself from fraud, both online and off. Of course, I don't use e-bay for the same reason as not using paypal. I guess I sound like a paranoid, but I do shop online, just not with the company (paypal/ebay/half.com/etc.) that is responsible for allowing most of the world's phishing scams.

Ron,
You just have to decide what is important to you and if Paypal is worth the hassle. I use Paypal for whatever transactions that I can because it is much easier, however , I do not think they are infallible and keep a closer eye on my Paypal transactions than on my bank ones.

That's the point KCW,
They switched on me without giving me a choice, they were in total control....I had none...they did what they wanted to do with my money. was lucky to have the funds in the bank for them to loot.
Why should I risk it a third time when the arrogant.....won't even have the courtesy to respond to an email sent through their most elaborate emailing system.
Was just wondering if anyone knew they were making a change or they just did it because they wanna.

Had been thinking about dumping PayPal for a while. After seeing what happened with you, Ron, I've closed my account. Also deleted the cookies saved on my machine for them.

I'd ditch paypal too, but that would just kill my struggling small business.
I can't.
Google has a paypal alternative cooking up I hear, I wish they'd hurry up.

I'm really wanting to ditch Paypal too (after reading pages and pages from the link that Mike gave) But, I'm an Ebay junkie and I'd be a wounded duck without it.

I've seen all those nightmares before. My mother has been on ebay and using paypal for about 3 or 4 years I think. I have been on there for like 2/3 now and out of us both I've only had one problem with them.

My bank went after paypal for some shady activity that they did. Fraud department ate in to paypal and got me all of my money back. (About 100 dollars)
I got an email from paypal stating that if I ever did that again, they would terminate my account. I even got a phone call from somebody, a rather nasty phone call, explaining to me that any further violations of my terms of service would be met with penalties. I told them to, well, do things that I can't say here and told them I would not hesitate to do it again.
I bank with Bank of America, the local branch has been very, very good to me about protecting my interests. When paypal screwed me, the bank forwarded the money in to my account that day, and I kept that money. The bank went and got their 100 dollars or so back from paypal. They used their lawyers and their resources to get results, and their resources were far greater than mine.
Apparently, in the paypal terms of service, you agree not to activate any fraud protection service that your bank has to protect your accounts. I don't know what the deal was. I was kept blessedly free of stress, fine print, legal mumbo jumbo, and all of the usual lip service in dealing with scumbags... My bank went and did it for me. My coffee had barely even cooled when they had a phone number and my bank rep was calling up somebody, and she let them have it. Then a couple of guys in suits came in to the office and things got really heated. I went home.
I do think about ditching paypal.
