That's good news!
Despite being ex LDS I didn't know if there was a church position on wearing them or not.

I've found that opinions on that matter range as frequently as with any other group of people. Some love it, some thinks it odd, others find it inappropriate. There is a long standing tradition in the church with Polynesians, some of which wear lava-lava's (sp?)-another skirt-like garment- without any protest. There is also a strong emphasis in the church on family history, and when explained that way usually strikes a positive chord with most. Not that there needs to be a family connection to wear the kilt- but it makes a bit more sense to those that aren’t 'in the know'. I lived in Salt Lake for about 7 years and wore my kilt frequently. Comments were pretty much the same there as anywhere else. Occasional ignorant insults shouted at you from passing cars, but mostly positive and supportive.

I would think that the lava lavas would have been less of a problem due to their length whereas kilts would tend to be as long as the "g's" (sacred garments)?
But it's great if the two can go together so that one can be enjoyed without conflict with the other and become a wonderful way of celebrating heritage and family history.
I hope this isn't seen as straying outside the policy guidelines as it's technical and kilt-related as opposed to being theological.

Thought I'd join the discussion here as a kilted member of the LDS Church.
I'm a piper in one of the Salt Lake pipe bands and as has been mentioned, there are quite a few bands in Utah. Many of the members of the bands here in Utah are also members of the LDS Church (Mormon). The Church has never said anything about the wearing of a kilt, in fact several concerts have been held in the Church's Tabernacle and Conference Center with kilted Pipe Bands - no problems.
In October our band participated in the Presbyterian Church's Kirkin of the Tartan. After the service, my son and I attended our church service wearing our kilts. I never gave it a second thought and we had nothing but positive remarks.
We have a Samoan congregation that meets in our Chapel. In warmer weather many of them wear their traditional clothing.
The only standard that the LDS Church sets as far as clothing goes is that it be modest and appropriate. A kilt is modest, it is men's attire, and it is actully quite formal. You'll still get folks giving you curious looks, but I think you would anywhere.

As I said, I'm LDS and I wear mine to church pretty often. Folks are getting used to it. In fact if I don't wear it people mention it and ask why I'm not wearing it because they like seeing it.
I don't wear my sgian dubh but I wouldn't wear it in any church and that's just my personal feelings about it. No one told me not to.
