    There's rules????

    How did I miss them????

OH NO, have I possibly, maybe, been doing something wrong all these years?

OMG, I think I hear the Tartan Police banging down my door as I type this.
(clad in their LEO Tartan of course.)

Does this mean I'll be incarcerated and bound over a grate with frigid updrafts?

Somebody should have told me there were rules.

ya may gae "regimental" under yur kilt though, if ya choose....

    ai prefer gaein' "reggie" an

I find that when I am at work its best not to go regimental, other than that I do most times, but, just do what you are comfortable with. The important thing is that you wear a kilt.

definitely, you have to be a commando, or at least some kind of special operations to wear trousers without getting either chaffage or zipper injuries.

What can I add to this other than personal experience. When I first started wearing the kilt a few months ago, the thought of going regimental was beyond me. However, once I got more used to the kilt, regimental was not far behind.

I would say I am 50/50 now depending on the situation. For example, for church or related functions, I absolutely do not go regimental. For other functions, it depends. Of course, one must always preserve the mystery for those around us! And as a side word of advice, always be prepared to answer "THE QUESTION"

I also recommend that you read Matt Newsomes advice on the subject here (scroll all the way to the bottom, although the entire article is a good read!).... http://www.albanach.org/advice.htm
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

I went regimental at my brother's wedding (though the priest had to teach me how to sit) and I plan on going regimental when I finally get my kilt (if it is appropriate for the situation). With pants you have options... you can go commando if you want, or wear shorts if you want. Only makes sense the same should apply to civilians in kilts.

But speaking of going regimental... an old lady at the place I used to work told me this story. She was so Scottish she'd blow your mind, and her husband was Irish (Harley Flynn, could he have a more Irish sounding name?). Anyhow, he was in the Canadian Black Watch during WWII, and apparently when the soldiers were in the barracks they had to go regimental. At inspection time their commander would walk down the ranks and lift their kilts with his cane, but only so far as to see if they were wearing shorts or not. So what Harley would do is roll his shorts up as far as they would go, creating a bit of a 'diaper effect', that way the commander would only see leg when it was time for a kilt check.

Clearly this commander was not doing a thorough job

Or the cheeky soldier would have been discovered to not be cheeky enough!
