A couple of encounters kilted

Probably the funniest experience I've ever had was on my way back from Nashville. I stopped in Kansas to purchase fuel, and while I was pumping the gas, a gust of wind came up and had my kilt up around my ears. It seemed like the harder I tried to get it back down in place the more determined the wind was to make sure this didn't happen. When I went in to pay for the fuel, the attendant, a very nice woman, was laughing so hard she could hardly talk. She told me she doesn't see too many kilts in that part of the country, to which I replied with wind like that I can guess why not.

Overall though, the switch to kilts has been one of the better moves I've made in my life.

That's got to be about the funniest kilting story I've heard yet! Glad I wasn't having anything to drink, it'd be all over the keyboard by now! Well, that just made my day! Thanks for sharing.

Sometimes a nice looking lady will ask, "So where are your bagpipes?" I just look at her and grin. It takes a few seconds for it to sink in, then they just suddenly look very embarrassed and walk away.

One night I was waiting in line to get into a small club for a concert. Another guy is standing there, looks at the kilt and says "Do you eat haggis?"

I have to admit that was a first. Of course I said "Yeah, love it." Turns out he'd tried it at a Burns supper somewhere and didn't care for it. Ended up having a nice conversation about haggis.

My favorite is wearing my utilikilt around work (large internatinonal banking concern campus, about 2500 people), I have had 3 different people at completely different times come up to me and ask if it is my families tartan.

it is black. Flat black, no design whatsoever.

So, I smile and say "no, but it suits me fine." I think the fact that people who wear kilts tend to come across as more adventurous and outgoing tend to make people want to approach and connect in some way.

In my case, those who knew me before are not the least bit surprised that I wear a kilt frequently these days.

I find it interesting when people notice you if you are not wearing a kilt!

I was outside in shorts yesterday giving my Goldwing GL1500 a wash and a Scottish lady pulled up and asked me where it was!

Alas sometimes it's necessary to perform certain tasks without one!
