interesting true story
not sure why i haven't posted this before,
when high school graduation rolled around for me in 1984
at Brampton Centennial Secondary School (grade 12 for me, grade 13 for others)
i had the notion that going to the Formal in a Tux was just too ordinary,
i wanted to stick out from the crowd ever so slightly.
i decided that i was going to go "KILTED"! the local formal wear rental place had everything
i needed to do so, from head to toe.
so i figured that i was going to be the sharpest looking guy there;
Prince Charlie, Kilt, Proper Hose, Dress Sporran dressed to the nines.
then i heard a rumor. it turned out to be true.
2 girls in the grad class that didn't like me to begin with
passed around a petition that said if i was not in a Tux i would not be allowed in.
some how they got the idea that wearing a KILT was going in DRAG!
and with my rep for pulling off the wall gags i guess they figured i was going in an evening gown or something.
well i got more than insulted!
now at the time i was an up and coming young drummer in the Toronto music scene.
so i put the word out with some connections i had,
next thing you know NO BAND would play the BCSS Formal,
and NO DJ's would either.
the grad class had to DJ it themselves.
but still can you believe the gall of these 2 girls;
who BTW dropped out of their first semester of college because they both got knocked up.
(but didn't know who the father was.)
classy chicks all the way.
for some reason this kept me out of a Kilt until recently, go fig.
i guess i figured i needed an occasion to wear a Kilt, and once the grad. was over
i had no reason to wear one.
silly me, go fig.
