Nobody has said it yet, so I will. How will everyone else be dressed? If this is a dress up event, you should dress up; if it's casual, go casual. Plus, as has been said, it's better to be a little overdressed than underdressed.

The event has everyone from t-shirts and ripped jeans to suits. Last year, there was one volunteer who was wearing a utilikilt and that inspired me to look into it this year. The general dress is polo shirts and slacks as well as cook-type clothing (at least that's what Wolfgang Puck and Emiril Lagassee (sp?) were wearing). I figure that I may get a chance to get a free whisky bottle or two from the whisky vendors if I am wearing a kilt....even a welsh one :-). The vendor reps always have discretion to give away some of their wares during the event. Usually they ignore us volunteers since the main point of their presence is to schmooze with other industry insiders, but perhaps a kilt can break the ice...can't hurt, right? I think the suggestion of oatmeal hose is a good one, hopefully thistle and shamrock in denver will have some choices today when i go down there...

And don't worry, I'll do my best to get some fun pictures!

Oh yeah, the event is AWESOME!

Unfortunately, this may be my last year since we will no longer be locals after we move to Lakewood....our committee chair will look into "grandfathering" us in, but you never know. I tried to tell her that we will only be a little further down valley, but she somehow didn't think that was so funny. So, this year I better wear the kilt both days and have at it!

I'll toss in my two pennies.

Since it sounds like the only level of dress you'll not have there is formal. I personally would go with your Docs, blue flashes to match the blue in the tartan. (I confess I had to look it up.) With solid black shirt, like a long sleeved T shirt. If it's cooler at the time of the gathering, I'd go with a long sleeved solid black without a collar. If it's warmer, loose the long sleeves.

You'll be a little of both. If you wear the flashes, it'll be a little bit of color and more formal, but the solid black is more casual, but will still be more of a relaxed look. You're already going to get more attention then if you wore pants, so subtle will look good IMO. Sort of like the jeans, solid color T shirt and brown corduroy jacket combo I wear when I'm going someplace and want to look somewhat dressed.
