Not to worry about variations in spelling; back in the old days most people couldn't spell their own name anyway, and for the ones who could it was considered a mark of creativity to devise new forms of the name. Shakespeare used many different spellings of his name, sometimes in the same document.
The Clark tartan is a colorful one without being outrageously flamboyant, like some we shall not name, so as not to give offense to those who like such display.
