While we may not be a clan in the traditional sense, we have at least the makings of one.
I would suspect that even the early clans were not all originally related. In theory, they would have started as groups of families who banded together for protection. Only as the years passed did they all become related through marriages (in days of old you had to marry who was available).
Even after a clan became associated with a particular family, there were still those individuals who were later absorbed into the clan after swearing loyalty. By agreeing to the forum rules, we are "swearing" our loyalty; and if someone breaks the rules, he could potentially be banned from the clan.
We're fools whether we dance or not, so we might as well dance. - Japanese Proverb
My poetic ability pales to Jamie's - as does my prosaic - but I second his sentiments.

I would have to agree that we are indeed a clan albeit a modern one, if memory serves one could pledge allegiance to the Clan Chief and therefore become part of the Clan.
Here is a wikipedia article on the Scottish Clan system
Very well thought out and stated, Jamie. You could even go so far as to say that the X Marks Clan has a VERY large list of septs since so many of us are registered with X Marks along with another Clan.
Now, as far as a Clan plant, that might be a tough one to figure out.
