Lucas: Prince of Darkness.
In the old days, 50s-60s, cars and motorcycles (BSA, Triumph, maybe Norton) were using Lucas electrics. They were not reliable at all. You could count on your lights failing you hence the nickname.

Oh yes! Having owned several Austins, Hillmans, and even an Australian built DeSoto, I know exactly what you mean!

Friend of mine used to drive a 59 Rolls-Royce, and he said that "the headlight switch has three positions: Off, Dim and Flicker."
Of course, Lucas electrical was never very dependable, was it?

I worked for Land Rover in the mid-90's, in their hot weather testing program, down in Phoenix. 90% of the problems we had with Land Rovers were electrical.

As an old MG guy myself I have done battle with "The Prince of Darkness" a few times myself.
Why do the English drink warm beer?
Because they have Lucas refridgerators!

The thing is, Lucas electrics work because of the smoke. when a component fails you might hear a sound and then all the smoke leaks out. Once all the smoke leaks out the part won't work anymore. ![Laughing](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

The shirt is one of my favorite's. It reads
Lucas
The prince of darkness
"a gentleman does not motor about after dark" a quote from Lucas.
