Mine has not arrived in the mail yet. I met the gentleman who is the head kilt maker there,he is a retried Scottish military kilt maker. I bet he will be rather upset when he sees the catalogue!!

I expect that he won't be the only one gnashing teeth about this....It makes them come off as ignorant, even though they aren't.

Ranks right up there with a web site here in the US that rents kilts and had proudly posted pictures of their satisfied customers. One of the pictures actually had a gentleman wearing one of their rental kilts with the pleats in the front. I sent an email to them suggesting that maybe it didn't reflect well on them to have posted that photo in a collection of their fine work. Last time I looked, it wasn't up any longer.

The "Editor" of the catalogue needed a picture to fill a page. So, the picture was flipped. I noticed it when the kilt pin was on the wrong side of the apron. I notice these things because my father was a printer. He examined every printed product that he ever handled. It nust be hereditary. My job often takes me to printing plants. I always check the registry marks on the sheets. We flipped a yearbook photo in the ad section of my High School yearbook. The owner of the shop was livid and to this day, will not advertise in the yearbook. Yes, I am Picky, picky ,picky.

So is this one an actual backwards kilt?

Well, given the formality of the rest of the outfit, my first inclination was to say no, the pic was flipped. But the plaid is actually worn pinned on the correct shoulder, and it looks to me also like the vest buttons the correct way (although it's hard to tell). So maybe it was a deliberate thing to have this kilt open on the left. Why, I haven't a clue.

The kilt pin is certainly not on the usual side but I see nothing else odd about it. With a small photo of an all-black outfit it's difficult to be sure. I don't see where the pleats are.

I may have found at least a partial explanation for the backwards or sideways wearing of the kilt. Most of my pants and shorts have a manufacturer's label in the rear, either centered or over the right hip pocket. Most of my kilts have it in the front (inside, of course) either centered on the under apron or over the right hip.

Only a tiny fraction of the population has ever looked closely at a kilt or has any idea how it should be worn. If the location of that label were the only indication one had . . .

Besides, it is easy to believe that sitting on the aprons would be more comfortable than sitting on the pleats.

Where "human anatomy" was showing in several pictures, within the undergarment section.
I'm too young to remember this. But, the idea of "anatomy" showing in a 1970s catalog is a hairy situation!
