I'll second everything you said about Barbour products. My Barbour wax jacket is the best jacket I have ever owned, bar none.
Barbour may be expensive, but their items will last for a lifetime -- and that is the true definition of frugal; buy the best so you won't have to keep replacing the shoddy stuff!
$35 for a pair of socks is very reasonable, and Barbour is good quality -- why on earth would anyone compare this to...shudder...tube socks?

3.7 miles, to be exact. I've not bought any barbour stuff in a while, but I can give an example of its long-levity. I had a wax jacket too, but grew out of it. It then went to my cousin, who grew out of it, and so it went to his younger brother, and then another younger brother after him. I used to spend a lot of weekends at my uncles farm, and my cousins used to live on a farm, non of us where perticularly precious with clothes... My parents got the jacket back, 5th hand now, but have kept it for when they have grand kids, because its still it good condition.
I;ve not had any barbour socks that tall, but I doubt they'd be much differant from the boot socks I have, and I've never bought cheeps socks since. Before hand, I could wear socks two or three times, then they'd start to go thin and get holed. Now I'll not by any socks that I'm not certain will last for five years!

As many around here know, I wear shooting hose from another company in Northumberland: The Almost Unwearoutable Sock Company:

Some of the best kilt hose I have ever owned, and they do live up to their name. ![Wink](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
This thread reminds me; it's time to re-wax the jacket.

Get yourself a pack of long Tube socks (5 pair for $6.00) and buys a Stillwater Thrifty kilt. It's still cheaper than one pair of the above. ![Laughing](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
Sorry Ozman, I would only wear tube socks to push down over boots on a hot summer day. I can't even begin to imagine what they would look like pulled up with a kilt.

Since my Wilkinsons come from Northumberland, I've always admired both the Northumberland tartan and the flag.

Babour oozes quality and is well worth the money whatever they produce

I think you look great!! ![Very Happy](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
I think they must have been thinking of tube socks as those white athletic scoks, perhaps?
