I'd wear it. Looks nice....... pleated to the gold stripe.

I like it! It works well to represent Michigan. There is a related university-tartan thread here somewhere.

No reds, greens, browns, or other colors are necessary...your initial design is very nice and is "pure" U of M! The thin white stripe could be Michigan's snow!
I signed your petition...how many signers have you had?

Oh right, if you are a student/faculty/alum at UM, sign (or if you know any, force them to sign) this petition!
As of now, there are 4 signatures, but I made it last night, so that ain't bad.
Wooooooo,
Matt!

A stripe of brown, to represent the the Goodness of Guiness, perhaps?

I'm trying to imagine the tartan as a kilt. Seems like it would be very yellow, and hence bright. (May be my computer screen.) Is that the effect you want?

I'd personally tone down the yellow and concentrate more on the blue. Otherwise the yellow will take over, brighter colors do that. Other than that, very stylish.
The local pipe band might opt to wear it.

I guess beating in the yellow is pretty much what I am going for. UM's colors are azure blue and maize. During football games, students usually do a "maize out" where they all wear yellow shirts, making their section in the stadium yellow (similar to "red outs" in the Wings games).
I do like the idea of adding a line to the blue. A box-pleat to the blue would be really awesome because of the maize-flash.
One of the reasons I want a UM tartan is so that I can wear a kilt on game days. I have been mistaken a few too many times for a Notre Dame fan (fighting Irish, I believe). I guess people associate kilts with Ireland? I do not know.
So, I figure having a solid blue and maize kilt would send a clear message. I'll play around with focusing more on the blue, though.

Update: I just added a black stripe to the blue area, and I like the effect for a couple reasons. (1) It makes it look a little more "tartan-like" (to quote a friend of mine), and (2) it allows for a box-pleat to the blue, which would have a really awesome "maize-flash" effect.

EDIT: I photoshopped it so that it was more maize and blue, rather than yellow and dark aqua
