Sorry, really thought I had the right forum. I guess this confirms that the kilt in question is not traditional. It is still a nice looking kilt though.
Don,
The Traditional Kilt forum is really for handsewn wool kilts.
It is not a traditionally made kilt because a traditionally made kilt is handsewn with the cutouts for the pleats for a slimmer waist. It certainly still is a traditionally styled kilt and a nice one to boot.
The SWK Weathered Lamont is an off the rack and massed produced kilt. Jerry over at SWK has never indicated once that his kilts are anything but this.
It's still a kilt, but it isn't the kind that the Tradition Kilt sub forum is about.
That is why Colin moved your thread.
No offense was intended to Jerry, SWk, or you.
Cheers

I also have the SWK Weathered Lamont. It was about the 3d kilt I bought (from someone on the forum here). I got it because of the muted brown colors, and it remains a favorite for the autumn season. Goes well with greens or browns.
I found it to be very comfortable and fits well.
I thought I had a picture in it, but can't find one. I'll have to get the camera out!

Hey guys,
For the longest time, Jerry only had big sizes in the Lamont tartan, then BANG all of a sudden, amidst all of those larger sizes was a tiny little 30 inch waisted Lamont. It took me all of two minutes to decide it had to be mine, although I will have to have the straps moved, as I'm more like a 28.
Question. Picture this. My brother's wedding if coming up and the only stipulation is that men in the immediate family must wear black shirts with black ties...don't ask me why. I thought the matching tie/shirt thing was so last year :-) Anyway, I was going to wear my black Argyle jacket, 5 button waistcoat, black shirt, black tie and black kilt hose? I was thinking of wearing the Lamont weathered with matching flashes. Do you think I can pull it off, despite the fact that the rest of the outfit is black? I think it might look alright, I'm up for something a little different, not so traditional. I gather weathered tartans are not considered very "formal", but I don't care about that, just as long as the outfit looks good. Thoughts??????

I own two of the weathered kilt. As it has been stated the sett is only half of the ancient tartan, so if anone askes I tell them it is the McLamb tartan.

Personally, I think that sounds like it would look great and certainly something I would wear in that situation. The HLW (half Lamont weathered) will look great against the black.

Don,
I say "Go for it!"
If you can spare the cash, I think you will be pleased with the product.

SWK Lamont
I got mine from SWK about a month ago and really enjoy it. The colors are muted but nice and go with just about anything. Just like others I like the browns and greens weathered look. For the money it is a really nice kilt and worth it even if you have to pay someone to alter it for you later. I'd jump on the one in your size and hem later. The kilt is great for the outdoors (my major use for the kilt) and works indoors also. Grab one while you can. Here are some pix from another thread.
