Right then if all else fails, you have tried hiring, begging, borrowing, creative tailoring with the father-in-law's best dinner jacket(tux) and anything else that a desperate kilt wearer may try.The first thing is to develop an extremely thick skin, become deaf and most important of all, a devil may care attitude.
Are you with me so far?It is a sure bet that most people on the cruise will know little about what SHOULD be worn with the kilt at a formal dinner. There are, when all said and done, dozens of questions on this website from kilt wearers wanting to know what to wear at such an event.Yes?
All you need is your kilt attire that you have got,the very best you can do,and then you need a white shirt, turn down collar, and a black crew neck pullover and a whole heap of confidence! As one of your admirals once said :"Damn the torpedoes ,full steam ahead!"It works,I know I have done it! OH and no bow tie just an open collar.Good luck!

tattoobrad had this same problem a month ago before HIS cruise. He called me and we got it there in time:

Lesson is: Check with different vendors if you're in a time crunch. It may not be too late. ![Smile](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
Indeed. I was just going to post this as I was reading through the threads. Rocky got mine to me super fast. If you're interested, just call him and see if he has your size available. I got the Argyll w/ waistcoat. With that combo you can dress it up or down for ANYTHING.
At the formal night for our cruise...

My advice would be to rent. The cruise is a special event and it is obvious from your question that you would lie to do it right. Sure you could do a conversion but you have the real thing coming so you don't have need of a conversion that may or may not turn out the way you want. Also do you really want to spend pre-holiday time trying to figure this out. One or two calls to one of the vendors here, that deal in rentals, and you are all done.

I would have to agree with Chef, and Matt, and I should have said it in my earlier post, if it were me given your unique circumstances I would rent what was needed. There are I am afraid two schools of thought; one says wear the proper outfit, the other wear a close facimilie and hope nobody else knows any different. I am not ashamed to say that I enjoy having my highland wear as authentic as possible, and as has been noted above you have an Argyll and PC on the way, so best rent for now.

PC Jacket
First off-I would like to thank everyone for their advice and help so far.
The reason my PC won't arrive in before I leave is the "special" measurments that I have. I am a "big feller" (size 52 jacket). Over 6' 1" very broad-shouldered. It's the measurement they take from the crown of the shoulder to the wrist that has become my "down-fall" in getting a nice fitting jacket I can use. The 52 is too big and does not fit the way it should. This is why I am having one specially made as a "51" or something like that. Size 50 is too restrictive. I have looked into rentals, a lot of the places near me either have no 52 or and the ones they do fit terribly because of the unusual arm length I have. This is why I don't wear tuxedo's well.
I have been told that there are alternitives to PC jackets, just not sure which one. My wife told me the ship has "rentals" onboard for special functions and perhaps I might find something there. I leave this Thursday, so time has become a large factor. The thing is, if I knew about this earlier (wearing the kilt) I would have been ready . Basically, I want to look sharp for this function because I was told that these events are very formal because it is on Christmas Day.

Red Sea Rig
For an alternative, there's always "Red Sea Rig":

Of course, it depends on if you're going "east of Suez" or to tropical climes. Red Sea Rig is an old Royal Navy custom. I normally wouldn't cite wikipedia, but at least this entry has sources cited:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Sea_rig
Really, though -- rental is probably your best option. Don't let anyone disuade you because of their dislike of formal wear; if you feel it is appropriate, then wear what you want.
Splice the mainbrace!

Sorry. I couldn't help myself.
I do know that most tux rental shops can get you one of those black tie waiters jackets that only reach the waist, and that wouldn't look bad at all.

Sorry, I didn't see you last reply about sizing problems.
Just go somewhere you can buy a cheap black vest and wear it with a bow tie. Sew on some silver buttons if you like, and you'll look fine. And seeing as how you'll be kilted, even without a jacket, you'll still be better dressed that the panted ones. (Is panted a word? )
