They are dance ghillies, very much like a ballet shoe but with the same lace arrangement as ghille brogues.

Wonderful photos Jamie, it does me good to see them as I miss my classes already, we stopped a couple of weeks ago, but will pick it up again in January. It must be wonderful to have a live band, for the classes I go to we have an i-pod.

with envy. Wish Ann and I could be young again; we used to so much enjoy the Scottish Country Dancing; it is really good exercise and a great way to make new friends.

Jamie, I was also struck by the fact that you had a LIVE band at your SCD party. Something we were never able to do, except when I was a member of groups in London because there are several bands there. Get out into the country in East Anglia (where I lived previously) or down here in the Southern Counties, and you will not find a band to play for such an event - even if the group could afford one!

An interesting dance programme. I recognise only three of those listed - but I have not danced for several years and am obviously out of touch. Reel of the 51st Division was always a great favourite, though.
