It seems that Pakistan is not the only Asian country in the kiltmaking business now. I wonder if it held any advantage over China by being part of the Commonwealth (assuming that it is).

I have 2 PV kilts. I like them. I am happy with them and I knew what I was getting myself in for when I bought them. Buuuut, for the price they are good quality.
One of them is a Gold brothers kilt and I happy wear it out amongst friends with tanks when I'd rather keep my wool kilts at home.

That said, I think the Gold brothers realllllllly need to draw the line somewhere.
Affordable kilts and tourist kilts are one thing, but this goes so far beyond any of that.

It's a MARKET, folks. Merchants bet that they can supply a need, or a want. If they're wrong, they lose money. If they're right, they make money.

Instead of hooliganism, it would be better if traditional kiltmakers voluntarily associated to have a "higher standard" of kiltmaking. Although I guess we couldn't call it the "Gold standard" . . . .

    seanboy,

Regardless if you are serious or joking that comment is out of line and not worthy of our forum.

Do you follow the threads that you respond to?

Here's a post that you should have read in response to one of yours:

If your purpose here is merely to stir up trouble then it is time that you move on.

I will PM you this message as well.

    Respectfully

Another comment in the thread below the article answers that questions:

I used to work in a kilt shop, and they were flooded by emails from Pakistani firms offering their 'kilts' (read cheap skirts!) for about £3 per piece wholesale. Yes, three quid each. And the Gold Brothers buy them in such bulk to fleece tourists with they probably get them cheaper still.

It is likely the same as anything else. We all like it when we can find something 'cheaper', however, at some point a line is crossed and what you get is not worth it. There is a lot of material and energy wasted on 'cheap' products.

For example I much prefer to drive an older Mercedes that holds up well and has new parts available decades after it build rather than purchase a new car that after seven years will have little news parts available besides typical maintenance items.

A very interesting article. Being a person who tries hard to find a positive in all aspects of life, about the only thing I came up with is that it gives people who may be interested in exploring a kilted life an opportunity to enter this wonderful world at an "affordable" price. Hopefully they will then gain a little more education and will move up in the world.
