I fully intend to keep the moral high ground on this. I've had wonderful comments and from groups that I wasn't expecting them. I may even ask at the end of the week if there would be problems with me wearing kilts at other times. Our Hr manager certainly seems to like it, she always goes bright red and giggles like a little girl when she sees me walk by.

It has been my experience that in our society, "diversity" does NOT extend to those of us of European ancestory. I'm not Celtic American; I'm generic "white." It sounds to me like those two people fall into that category. Or as me Grandadad Leddy used to say- You can lead a jack*** to knowledge, but you can't make him think.

A much less bitter of way of putting than I came up with.

I would not be surprised if your HR department has procedures for dealing with racial and ethnic slurs and other acts of hatred. Have you talked to the HR manager about this?

Ach, let it go. Academia only has "diversity" when it applies to certain groups.

In the US, there have lately been a bunch of stories about conservative-oriented students getting singled out by their professors and having their grades compromised for their opposing viewpoints. Luckily, as a student, I fit the mold of a "good" liberal and never experienced discrimination myself, but i do recall that conservative students were constantly viewed by students (and I would guess their professors) as weirdos and not worthy of having a discussion with in regard to "mainstream" university views.

I dont know if across the pond this is the case, but it's not worth the effort to get up in arms about it....waste of stress and waste of time.

Live yer kilted life and enjoy, I say!

My best friend goes to Colorado State University. He's had that same problem. He's fairly conservative (which has caused much between the two of us!) and has told me of similar problems. Of course, he's half Cherokee, so he COULD play the race card if he wanted... but luckily, he's disgusted by people who do that.
