Welcome to the Rabble!
from Sunny Southern California!
I also have had trouble using tape on fabric - the glue can cause problems later on, and you will need some heavy chemicals to get the glue out of the fabric.
Again - Welcome to the Rabble!

I use tape to hold the inner pleat edges down while I sew the outer pleat edges on a machine (no need for this when hand sewing of course) It keeps those edges from rolling up and getting stitched down wrong. As soon as you finish sewing you pull it off. No problems with sticky residue, and of course ironing over it would be pretty awful.

Thanks all of you for that warm "welcome"
As Tartan Hikers said "Dont heat your masking" is the first rule. Is the same as "Dont scratch your Iron ironing over pins" rule. Lol
I'm wearing it roght now, but it isnt complete yet. Need belt straps, under apron velcro, and some "extras" from my own.
I'm wearing unfinished cause I love it and to see if something is wrong or need some improvment.
I need an Sporran too. to keep al in it place Lol.
ASAP I will pay Alan and Tartan Hikers with the best money: "Pride" in the shape of some Pics.
Sunny regads

I've never used masking tape to hold anything anywhere while I sew, but it sounds like a good idea as long as you don't iron it! Good thinking!
Regarding the waistband and the under-apron strip....yes the waistband also covers te upper, raw edge of the under-apron strip.
Please post a picture or two when you are done!

hi Alan
Now I understand! you only cover the top of the over apron strip! I can't figure it the past night. I just sew the waistband outside of the kilt, then sew the velcro to the waistband and then sew the waistband to the inside of it.
But I make a BIG Waistband. 8 inches folded as your instructions that make a 2 inches Waistband.
Just a few stiches more and I post some Pics.

You're experimenting with things. That's GOOD! You will learn what works and what doesn't. That's GOOD. When you're all done you'll have a kilt that YOU made and you can wear and you can be proud of. That's GOOD.
It's all good!

Welcome!
Welcome to the Rabble, and once more congratulations on making your first kilt. As a new member myself I havent quite grasped the depth and bredth of knowledge and experience to be found among this bunch. Just rambling through old posts more exposure to great ideas and advise than I can grasp at one time. I have'nt really found a good challenging question to put to the resident sages yet, but I am looking, <ebil grin>.
Enjoy wearing your kilt, as we all do, and welcome abourd.
** ponders silently, does wollen tweed come in a paisley pattern? ANd if it did.......????***
