Coemgen, have you ever seen the Secret of Roan Inish?
Another of our family's favorites, filmed in the northwest of Ireland & features some Gaelic in it as well.
It's based on the novel The Secret of Ron Mor Skerry, by Rosalie K. Fry.
I saw it a long time ago when I was a wee boy.

That's a lot more prominent than just about every other film I've ever seen. But then, I've seen but a smattering of films, in proportion to the number out there, so I could very well be mistaken.

Yu Ming Is Ainm Dom (My Name Is Yu Ming) that was fun, but it was kind of sad the people did not recognize their own language.

Sad truth, especially in Dublin. Thankfully I lived in Galway where there were at least some people to talk to in the Irish.

Sean Thornton's Saddle
I'm a big fan of the movie. I've been watching The Quiet Man since I was a kid, and had a chance to visit the town of Inishfree (Cong, Ireland) back in 1992. However, it is only recently that I discovered something I hadn't seen before:
Sean Thornton's Saddle
In the horse racing scene, John Wayne is clearly riding a US Army McClellan Cavalry saddle. All the other riders are in English saddles. Which got me thinking:
Was it Sean Thornton, the character, who brought this saddle with his other stuff from America, or was it John Wayne, the actor, who just preferred to ride a McClellan over an English saddle?
Anyone got the inside scoop, or care to venture a guess? My bet goes to Duke riding in the saddle he was used to.....
