    Rhino Games

Saturday I drove to Exeter, Ca for the Rhino Games, a small highland games thrown by some great people.

First of all, the Game was nothing like I expected. There was no festival associated with it, it was just the athletic events. It wasn't at a park or any other normal sort of venue, it was in the backyard of the Hosts, Mark and Steffani (I think that's her name)

They lived out in ranch and farm country, so their yard was several acres perfect for the game. Despite being thrown by themselves there was more in the way of amenities and stuff for kids and family to do than at most other games. My wife and my niece and nephew came with me and they had a full day of activities too.
There was a ton of free food, beer, and lots of prizes handed out. Just for showing up you got a T-shirt with the Game logo (a caber throwing tiki god), a mug with the same logo, and window decal of the same.

First, second, and third place in each class got another glass of some sort, depending on how you placed. First place winners also got a stone carved done by Mark himself in granite.

I won second place in the B class (on just my third Game since moving up a class) and got a nice highball glass with the hammer throwing rhino logo.

For the Anvil Toss the class winners got a steel cut anvil plaque and everyone who attempted a throw got an anvil sticker with the throwing rhino in the middle.

I won the anvil toss, not just for the B class but for the whole field. I threw a 165lb anvil 9'2". What does picking an anvil that size up look like?

    Like this.

    What about throwing it?

Here is my first throw, a 'mere' 8' 7 1/2". That was good for first place already.

Second toss. I threw it a good six inches further.

Some more throws in the more traditional events.

    Hammer Toss.

    Braemar Stone - 22 lbs, 26 feet 9 1/2 inches

Open Stone - 16 lb stone, 34 feet 3/4 inches

Caber Toss - 17 feet long, 65 lbs. Not really that big of a stick, but good for the class. A 1:15 turn. (12:00 is perfect)

One of the really cool thing about these Games was the chance to meet a couple of Xmarkers who were also throwing. I met Tim C, who was really cool but unfortunately he and I were in different classes so didn't get to talk too much.
I spent a lot more time with our own MacHenderson, who was throwing in the C's but they were throwing in the same rotation as the B's. It was really cool getting to meet a couple more people from this community, especially those who share the "throwing heavy objects" bug.

EDIT: Learned how to link the vids thanks to another post (forgot the poster's name, but thank you!)
