Thanks fellows for clarifying the garment has no pleats.

Sounds suspiciously like a skirt to me.

I've actually held one in my hands. Found one at REI's flagship store in Seattle and thought about buying one.

It's a skirt. I opted for putting it back on the rack and getting on with my life.

This is NOT a kilt. They call it a kilt so men will buy it, but it's a wrap skirt. Perhaps it could be called a sarong. It is absolutely not a kilt. It doesn't have any pleats, and there's no drape to the apron when you sit, so it's necessary to sit with your knees together. I think it's fairly useless for hiking as well, since it only stretches so far, so you'd have to hike it up in order to take big steps up rocks or over trees. I'm sorry if I seem negative, I'm really not impressed with this item. Their women's model works better (for women) since it's shorter, so you don't get the hindrance in stride that the longer men's model gets. I've seen plenty of these in person, and there's no way I'd ever buy one.

    Andrew.

Maybe that's why it's called a 'hiking kilt'

Went to a store today that carries Mountain Hardware. They didn't carry it but they did have the womans skirt. The salesman heard of it but laughed a little when I described it compared to a normal kilt. At least the trip got me in the mood to go out camping again!

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

We saw one at The Monterey Bay Aquarium. Looked comfortable. Oddly enough, it attracted less attention than Panache's kilt did. Then again, I think he may have been wearing loud Mcleod that day!

    Be well,

Dirk, Mountain Hardware in a top notch outdoors outfitter, I have one of their packbacking tents and it is a rock. I am surprized they would put their name a product like this, its just doesn't fit with their reputation.
